Bird is the Word!

Last night, Katie headed out with Maggie and her Mom to Mollywood Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary to finish up her hours to earn her Bronze Award.

Maggie has been volunteering at Mollywood for years and has been kind enough to take Katie with her when she goes.

When I headed out to pick up Katie I brought my camera along so I could capture some pictures of Katie and the birds.

Here is Maggie, Harley and Katie. Betsy is the gal this is hidden just behind Maggie and she and her family operate the Santuary.

Here is a better picture of Harley. Harley is just gorgeous. Unfortunately Harley bites! It was just after this picture that Katie figured out how hard Harley bites!
It was time to feed Harley and they feed him baby food through the syringe that you can see.

I don't remember the name of this bird but as you can see she won't let her feathers grow back. She keeps pulling them out. She has some very pretty orange feathers at the back of her head. This is Rosie (and of course Katie!). Rosie was much happier to see Katie.

This is another bird whose name I don't know. I just love its eyes and pretty yellow feathers.
There are about 270 birds that they care for on a daily basis.

These gals were hanging out on my porch while Katie was waiting for Maggie and I couldn't resist taking their picture!
And finally, on Sunday Gord's parents stopped by after attending a friend's 50th wedding anniversary and I had to take their picture since they were so nicely dressed!
BTW, I wanted to give a shout out to my friend Monica as it's her BIRTHDAY today!!

It's great for Katie to work with the birds. I, on the other hand, think they're pretty dang scary ... too big! And that one without feathers in front totally freaks me out. Eek! Good for Katie though. lol

Happy Birthday Monica - you don't look a day over 25!!!

Oh, the bird pictures are so cool. I'd probably be a little afraid of them, but I love the pics!
