Hawaii ~ Saturday, July 5th

I'm sorry that it's taking me so long to post pictures. The kids have been at Scout Camp all week and by the time I get home I'm tired and I want to go to bed!!

On Saturday, Gord and I decided that we didn't want to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Terence suggested that the Bishop Museum was the perfect place to still get the cultural information that we were interested in without spending all of the money!

We had a great time and spent about 4½ hours here!

When we first arrived here we met this little "Geico"!

I then noticed that he did tricks. Throat Open.

Throat Closed.

Throat Open again!

On one of the mini tours the guide told us all about the Kahili's of the Hawaiian Royalty. Each one was made individually for each member of the Hawai'ian Royal Family.

We got to see some traditional Hawaiian Hulas which are very different from the more contempory Hulas that are more popular today. This was the Dad who played on the drums and the guitar and sang while his son hulaed below. He also like to make jokes at his sons expense!

The son performed the more traditional hulas which are based on martial arts moves and tell stories of going out to sea.

Here is Katie trying out a Hula that they taught us!

Gord and Emily are giving it a try as well!

Next we headed off to their Planetarium. It was very interesting and very dark and cool and I was really enjoying it until Gord had to shake me awake because I was starting to snore loudly. It was the perfect environment for a quick catnap!

Here's a pretty flower I found.

And a chandelier that I found in one of the buildings.

I took a picture of Gord and the kids in front of a stone face. Evidently Emily thought his nose needed picking!

Sheesh, all of that & NO pictures of YOU?!?! What's up with that? Then again, I totally feel your pain (if you are feeling any, that is, if not, then it's all me)! HA Good pictures ... I like Emily picking the nose! ☺
